Kelly Gaitten – Loudoun County’s Hometown Realtor
I grew up in the small historic town of Occoquan, Virginia on the Occoquan River. I’m a lifelong resident of Virginia. I’ve called Loudoun County my home since I moved to Leesburg, Virginia in 1998. My career in real estate started in 1991. For the past 14 years I’ve lived here in Hamilton, Virgina with my husband Steve and a menagerie of animals usually including at least 3 dogs, 1 cat, and sometimes a horse and/or donkey.
My Early Career
Looking back it seems like my whole life was preparing me for a career in real estate. My father, Donald Lynn, former Mayor of Occoquan, was a savvy investor in residential, multi-family and commercial real estate. I learned a lot about real estate and property management riding around with my Dad as he did business around town. Among the many things I learned from my father, I learned how to get things done in a small town.
One of the first jobs in my early professional career was at Freddie Mac where I worked in several departments, the last in Quality Control and Loan Underwriting. Freddie Mac was an exciting place to be in the early 1990’s, based at their then new and sprawling corporate headquarters in Tyson’s Corner. Early on, I gained a detailed understanding of the mortgage lending process and industry, information that helped me be extremely effective as a real estate agent. Understanding what every party in a real estate transaction requires from a financial perspective is critically important. Keeping the bank, the borrower, the title company, the insurance company and every other participant in the process on track is one of the things I do best.
In the mid-nineties I became aware of a hot tech start up in Tyson’s Corner called America Online. I thought AOL could be something special, so I joined the company in 1996. Just a couple years later AOL would become a global phenomenon as the Internet revolution got fully underway. When I started, AOL was an unprofitable start-up with less than 2,000 employees. Just 4 years later AOL would boast more than 25 million subscribers and 19,000 employees world-wide. At AOL I learned how to conduct business at a start-up pace. We worked long hours at an intense pace. I thrived in that environment. My time at AOL also gave me a head start on the Internet, social media and digital marketing. All of these skills have made me a more effective real-estate agent. I leverage the latest technology to communicate with my clients, market my listings and work more efficiently.
Since leaving AOL, my exclusive focus has been on selling real estate in Loudoun County. I did $10MM in volume on my own in my first year. I started at Long & Foster, and later worked for local real estate legend Sherry Wilson at RE/MAX. I found my forever home at Prudential PenFed Realty in Hamilton in 2008. The Prudential PenFed Hamilton office is just a block down the street from my house in the center of town.
Many of my hobbies and personal interests help connect me with clients and understand their needs.
I have always had dogs in my life. I currently have three, including a Belgian Sheepdog (Groenendael), a Rottweiler mix, and a Lowchen mix. So, when a client has dogs, I understand their special needs when it comes to real estate. If you’re a buyer, you need an appropriate yard, a convenient place to walk your dogs, and maybe even a dog door. If you’re selling your house, you need to figure out what to do with your dog during showings. I’ll make certain your beloved companions are considered and cared for throughout any real estate transaction.
Most of my life I kept horses and was very serious about riding. I studied dressage and was active in the Loudoun Hunt for years. I’ve owned and operated horse properties and thoroughly understand the needs of horse owners. I know what it takes to maintain a barn, fencing and pastures. I am very familiar with most of the horse boarding facilities in the area. I know many, many of the horse properties in Loudoun County. Not only can I provide expert assistance in buying or selling a property for horses, I can help introduce you to the local horse community.
I’m also an enthusiastic and active golfer. I have been a member at Loudoun Golf & Country Club for the past 8 years. Right now my handicap is about 20. I like to compete in our annual match-play Club Championship. Back in 2010, I won the Second Flight. If you are looking to buy or sell a home in a golf course community in Loudoun County, I will intimately understand your special needs. If you’re a buyer, you need to get out and play the course before you make a decision about a home purchase, I can help. As a golfer, I’ve regularly played many of the great golf courses here in Northern Virginia. I can tell you what hole you want to live on, and maybe even help you read a putt. Here are some of the local courses that I play regularly:
